Save Money on Health Insurance

Everyone is talking about health insurance and how much it costs. While it is next to impossible to find health insurance at a rate you are going to like, it is possible to save some money with these simple tips.

  1. Opt in to anything your employer offers you. Take advantage of your benefits, even if your spouse has insurance through his/her work. This will save you by giving you a co-insurance for basically nothing.

  2. If you are self-employed or your employer does not offer health insurance, you need to do some shopping around. Go to an insurance broker who can offer you different packages for different insurances. These people don't work for one insurance, so they can get you the best deal.

  3. Check professional organizations you belong to or you could join to opt into the health insurance. Any little bit helps.

  4. If your healthy and young, ask for the bare minimum in preventative care. Going to the doctor for one check up a year shouldn't mean you have a large insurance payment.

  5. Up your deductible. The more you pay out when/if something happens the lower your monthly rate.

  6. Pay only for bare bones coverage and self-insure. This means to pay for a plan that will cover you should you have a major medical problem, example: heart attack, then save an amount monthly for future medical bills.

  7. Whatever you decide to do this year, you will be able to change it. So be on the lookout for better plans or other employers that offer more in benefits.
