Graveyard Cake Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup baking cocoa
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 eggs

    FROSTING:
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 2 tablespoons baking cocoa
  • 2 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 18 cream-filled chocolate sandwich cookies; crumbled
  • Green and brown decorator's icing or gel
  • 9 cream-filled oval vanilla sandwich cookies
  • 1 cup Cool Whip® whipped topping
  • Pumpkin candies and gummy worms, optional

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and grease a 13"x 9"x 2" baking dish.
  2. Mix flour, sugar, baking soda and salt in bowl.
  3. Bring butter, water and cocoa to boil over medium heat and add to flour mix and beat well.
  4. Add sour cream and eggs and continue beating.
  5. Pour into baking pan. Bake for 35-38 minutes. Cool on a wire rack for 5 minutes.
  6. While cake cools, boil butter, milk and cocoa in saucepan.
  7. Remove saucepan from heat and add in sugar and vanilla. Pour this mixture over the warm cake.
  8. Sprinkle the chocolate cookie crumbles and spread them over the frosting on the cake. Let cake and frosting cool completely.
  9. To make tombstones, use icing to decorate vanilla cookies with scary words or scary faces and place on cake.
  10. To add ghosts, make mounds of whipped topping and use icing to add eyes and mouths.
  11. Refrigerate for about 1 hour. If needed, you can add pumpkins and gummy worms before serving. Serves: 16.
