10 Ideas for a Last Minute Halloween Party

Been too busy to put together a Halloween party and now you want some spooky-type fun? Don't sweat it! You can have a blast with these quick and easy ideas.

  1. Tell your friends to spread the word. Usually one or two calls can get a real invitation chain going. Call the right people to get it started.

  2. Recruit your guests to start the party while they decorate:
    • Pumpkins can be turned into jack-o-lanterns during the party.
    • Let your guests tangle each other in spider webs.
    • Have a face painting contest where everyone comes ready to get painted up and scary.
    • Cut tombstones out of gray construction paper. Place them, black markers and scotch tape by the door. Have guests write an epitaph on a tombstone and tape it around the party area.

  3. Change the light bulbs. Either switch them to black lights or drape scarves over them. Instant dimmed and funky room.

  4. Simple food is best. Store bought cheddar popcorn, apples and Halloween candy is festive and a simple blood-letting type of punch of red juice and lemon lime soda will do fine to drink. Have friends 'bring your own' drinks or snacks to share. This will take one part of the load off and make things quicker for you.

  5. Throw down trash bags, fill a clean bucket with water and some apples for dunking fun. Or for some less wet fun, play scary movie charades, using titles or characters to act out.

  6. Rent some scary movies and keep them rolling throughout the party time. Or take a look online for old scary Halloweenish television shows to play on your laptop.

  7. Have a dance or limbo contest to your favorite Halloween tunes. They have Ghost Busters and Monster Mash available for download on iTunes and at Amazon MP3 area.

  8. If your party was too quick to have guests dress up, have them wear a habit. In other words, have them act like someone else at the party. Everyone can guess who everyone is acting like.

  9. Bags of Halloween candy will do well for prizes(along with these printables) and for party snacks and favors. Buy the kind that is already wrapped in Halloween splendar and it will double for decorations.

  10. Be sure to recruit the same friends that helped you set up to help clean up. Use throw-away everything so you can just dump it all after the fun is done.
