Traditionally, a baby shower was given by someone who was not of the family, so as not to look like the family was begging for gifts. These days the etiquette for a baby shower is a bit more relaxed. The point of a baby shower is to share in the excitement of the upcoming birth and honor the mother. Family and friends do this in part by helping with the finacial responsibility of having a child through a baby shower. The most common people who give showers today are sisters, friends, co-workers(at work showers), and/or a combination of these.
