Baby Shower Checklist - Timeline for Hostessing Previous Step | 6 Weeks Before the Baby Shower | Next Step
Approximately 6 weeks before holding a baby shower you will need to begin planning. Start by finding out dates that are good for mommy, get at least three. Think about traditional times, like weekend luncheons or brunches, and also think about non-traditional times, like a friday evening. Then compare these to dates that are good for you. Then take that list of times and call around again. Make sure the date you are thinking about is good for the most important people in mommy's life, like her mother or sisters.
Map out a budget. Know what things will cost and who is paying for what. Just because you are doing the planning, doesn't mean you have to foot the entire bill. Nor does it mean you have to do all of the work.
Choose a location and make sure it is available for your date. If you have to rent a hall or use a room at a resturant, this is an important step to get done right away. You'll need to reserve it and you'll need to know how much it is going to cost for your budget. If you are choosing between your house and someone else's house, you can wait a couple of weeks.
Begin to gather a guest list. Be sure to ask everyone if there is anyone they think should be invited. Be sure to send baby shower announcements to those who live far away also. They may want to participate by sending a letter and/or gift for the mommy.
Start looking at baby shower themes. A theme is idea or thread that is what the shower is based on, like a Noah's Ark theme or the traditional pink/blue baby things themes. There are many themes to choose from, but try and think about the mommy and see if there is a theme she may like.
