How To Tear Paper for Scrapbook Layouts

Why Tear Your Paper?

The tearing paper technique gives a different look then straight-edge cuts. It's softer and adds interest to a scrapbook layout. Layering torn paper adds texture to your embellishments and layouts.

Tearing Techniques

  • Use a steady pull when tearing. Don't tear too fast. Hold down the paper on one side of where you would like to tear and pull the other up and towards you with the other side.
  • For a straight line tear, use a ruler or straight edge.
  • For specific tears, like making mountains, circles or other shapes, paint the shape with water and then tear.
