These are the basic quilling shapes used to make quilling designs. Each is pictured with an explanation to the side. Projects are listed on our Quilling Index.
 | Tight Roll or Peg - used as centers and to lift other shapes. |
 | Loose Roll - used as is to pinched into different shapes. |
 | Diamond - start with a loose roll and evenly pinch both ends at once. |
 | Tear Drop - start with a loose roll and pinch at one end. |
 | Square - start with a diamond, turn one quarter turn and pinch evenly. |
 | Heart - start with a tear drop, at the round end push inward a short way and pinch. |
 | Open or Scrolled Heart - Made by folding the strip of paper in half, then scrolling in both sides. If you want a tight scroll, you should glue the rolls. |
 | Half-circle - Make a loose circle and pinch two sides at the bottom making the bottom corners. |
 | Cresant - Make a loose circle pinch on an offset diamond and round off. |
 | Triangle - these can be made tight or loose. After rolling the circle, pinch three points. |
 | Swirled Diamond - Make a loose circle and pinch opposite two sides then push together to create the sway in the swirl. |
 | Peacock eye - Tight peg made into a tear drop - you have to pinch hard. |
 | Rectangle - Same as the square, only offset the corners. |
 | S Scroll - Coil up each end of your paper strip as far as you want the scroll. This can be tight or loose. |
