Desert gardens are easy to make, but should be done by older kids(7+) as prickly plants take some small muscle coordination inorder not to be picked. You'll need:

• Flower pot with drainage hole and under plate; a wider and lower size is better
• Gravel
• Potting soil
• Sand
• Various castus plants
• Decorative stones, shells, crystals
• Thick garden gloves are recommended

1. Place one layer of gravel at the bottom of your flower pot. Be sure that the entire bottom is covered as this layer will help promote the drainage of water.
2. Place a thicker layer of potting soil next.
3. While wearing the gloves, put in your plants by digging a small hole for each one. Use creativity to design the garden.
4. Place a layer of the sand on the potting soil, so that it cannot be seen.
5. Arrange your decorative stones, shells and crystals.
6. Remember to keep this type of garden in the sun and to water sparingly as ccactus do not like much water.
